LE STRADE DEL VINO
by Antonio Mauriello

Many people have asked me about tips and advice when travelling Italy. I thought that if I published them here, one at a time, everybody could enjoy and share.
"Le Strade del Vino". What are they? How many are there?
Le Strade del Vino" literally means "The Wine Routes", which, in Italy, like in other wine countries, are itineraries through vineyards, wine producers and "wine-towns". In Italy, the boom of Le Strade del Vino and Citta' del Vino (wine towns), took place about 10 years ago to encourage a new wave of tourism called "enoturismo" or "tourism of wine".
This routes are now present in every wine area of Italy and are organized by theme, usually a grape or wine appellation. So you can find "Le Strade del Barbera" (the wine routes winding through the vineyards and producers of Barbera in the NorthWest Piemonte region) or "Le Strade del Chianti" (the wine routes winding through vineyards and producers in the area of the Chianti DOCG appellation in Tuscany).
As of today, Italy has more than 100 Strade del Vino e 540 Citta' del Vino!
