The recently assigned (2005) first and only Sicilian DOCG ... for now!

Volcano Etna (3340 m)
Theme dinner
Wine, cuisine, traditions from the island of Sicily
With its 25,460 km², the island of Sicily is the biggest of the Mediterranean Sea, followed by the island of Sardinia (23,813 km²), and then Cyprus (9,251 km²).
'La bella Sicilia' boasts an enchanting mosaic of cultures (due to its strategic geographical position) and attracts people from all over the world with its unique variety of food ingredients and native grapes, blended together in a romantic mixture of modernity and tradition.
Come and experience, in person, this magical world, brought to you, as always, by your friends and hosts Antonio, Gino, and Mirella .
The Team:
-- Executive Chef: Gino Mastellotto
-- Sommelier: Antonio Mauriello
-- Lecturer: Mirella Ioly
-- Event Coordinator: Heather Lockwood
The evening includes:
- a taste of several traditional dishes in an elegant and cozy setting. Ingredients are researched by our chefs and bought fresh from local Ottawa markets, as well as imported from Italy. Chefs will briefly describe the food and the ingredients used
- a taste of several wines (including a rare sweet fortified Malvasia!) chosen to match the menu items. We will describe the wines, their grapes, vinification methods, and the reasons (traditional and modern) for the different food pairings
- a presentation on the food and culture of Sicily and its ancient traditions.
